Seattle Streetcar Makes It’s First Run
You may see the new streetcar making it’s rounds today downtown. The new orange machine crossed Denny Way on my way to the office this morning. If you haven’t already heard, the streetcar has been added to city transportation in efforts to keep up with the increase in new Seattleites coming for Biotech and other jobs. This is all due to the Mayor’s South Lake Union Action Agenda. The 1.3 mile route connects South Lake Union, the new waterfront park, the Denny Triangle and the Downtown Retail Core/Westlake making 11 stops every 2 to 3 blocks.
Click here to see photo simulations of the South Lake Union Streetcar
Adult Fare for the ride is $1.50 and the reduced fare for those 65 and over, youth and persons with disabilities is $.50. Children under 5 ride for free. PugetPass, Metro passes, and Metro transfers is also accepted. Riders will have easy access to Metro buses and Sound Transit buses, trains and light rail; Ferry service; Taxi; Flexcar; Park and Ride; and Monorail.
The Streetcar will run seven days a week at 15 minute intervals during the following hours.
- Monday through Thursday: 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
These hours of operation will be coordinated with other modes of transportation, such as Metro buses and Sound Transit buses, trains and light rail; as well as local and regional events.
