A new, yet historical addition will soon be made by Gibraltar of Seattle since the “go ahead” has been made through the permitting process regarding the secretly famous William Tell Apartments. Plymouth Housing Group purchased the 1925 built building in 1986, which was once known for being the center of the film industry–previously low-income housing by Plymouth. Many of those in the film industry (managers, studio representatives, and movie stars from companies like Colombia, Warner’s, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and more) used to stay at the address when (1920’s to 1960’s) it was the Lorraine Hotel and Belltown was the center of the film industry for the Puget Sound.
Gibraltar bought the property several months ago for $3.1 million from Plymouth, and plans are to now convert the building to a youth hostel. Plymouth earlier reported that the repairs needed just wouldn’t be worth the investment and are using the money to help pay for a newer, larger building on 1st and Cedar.
